World Book Day 2017
March 2nd saw Hillside overrun with everything from pirates and princesses to witches and Where's Wally. Staff and children dressed up as favourite book characters as part of the day's celebrations.
As well as dressing up, the children experienced the power of democracy first hand, as each class voted for the best costume. The school used World Book Day as an opportunity to not only promote reading and the love of books, but also to teach British Values. Each child had one vote and they posted them into special ballot boxes. The children with the winning costumes each received a book. All the children in school took home World Book Day tokens.
Parents and carers joined in with the celebrations too. They were invited in to share story times and book-related activities. The event was organised by Miss Smith, our Literacy Co-ordinator.
