Owlets is our Nursery class and is taught by the class teacher, Miss Taylor with support from our Nursery Nurse Miss McGoldrick.
At Hillside Primary, our Nursery session begins at 8.50am and ends at 11:50am.
In the morning session, the children receive two carpet inputs that focus on either Communication, Language or Mathematics. Inputs also include activities based upon Phonics and Music as well as Personal, Social and Emotional Development. During these 10- 15 minute inputs, the children are able to work as part of a whole class, in small groups or with their Kagan Partners. The children also complete designated focused tasks each week that allow them to apply key skills modelled during inputs.
At Hillside, we follow a topic based curriculum. Throughout the day, the children are able explore the Nursery learning environment both within the classroom and outdoors to engage in child initiated play.
The children receive weekly Forest School sessions which are taught by Miss Wood. Mr Bass, one of our gardeners, also supports planting and growing activities. In Forest school, the children make use of both the schools extensive grounds as well as local woods.
In Owlets, the children have a timetabled PE session in the Dance Studio each Monday
