Penguins

Penguins is our year 2 class. Miss McLeod and Mrs Ali are the class teachers, supported by Teaching Assistants Miss Gill and Miss Benjamin. Miss McLeod will be teaching from Monday to Wednesday morning and Mrs Ali will be teaching from Wednesday afternoon to Friday.

The morning session starts at 8.50am until 12.00pm and the afternoon session starts at 1.00pm and finishes at 3.15pm.

In a morning, the children are taught the core subjects of English and Mathematics. During these sessions, the children can work either as a whole class, in small groups, or 1-1 with an adult.

During the afternoon session, the children undertake topic related work which covers subjects such as history, geography, science, PE, music and art. These topics change either on a half-termly or termly basis.

PE sessions take place on Monday and Wednesday. For the first half term Penguins will have Wednesday PE session (Football) with Mr Spencer. All children need to bring a PE kit including pumps or trainers on these days.

Children will change their home reading books in the morning at 8.50 and complete their reading diary at home. Children are expected to read at home each evening and should return their home reading diary on a regular basis so that it can be monitored by the class teacher.

Homework is given out on Fridays and should be completed and returned by the following Tuesday. If it is returned late, it might not be marked. Homework includes a list of spellings to be learnt and either an English or Mathematics activity.

The children in Penguins class have regular educational visits which may vary according to the topic being studied. All KS1 children go to the pantomime each year and have a summer trip at the end of the year.
